Af hverju fólk elskar þetta

9.892 umsagnir
  • The outdoor sauna with a panoramic glass wall overlooking Loch Pooltiel
  • Jonathan and Simone's legendary hospitality (and Simone's cooking)
  • Being just a short hop from Neist Point Lighthouse for sunset without the crowds

Stutt samantekt: A remote, hyper-clean sanctuary where the silence is absolute and the nearest supermarket is a 30-minute drive on single-track roads.

Farið yfir af @komalsingh.28I spent my weekend at Carters Rest and it was pure magic. Lighting the wood-fired sauna and watching the ocean through the glass was the highlight of my trip. If you need to escape the city and just breathe, this is the place. The silence is incredible.

The hype

Travelers universally adore the hosts and the spotless rooms, often citing the breakfast as the best they had in Scotland.

Reality check

The location is far from Portree (45+ mins), so it's not a convenient base if you want to zip around the whole island every day.

  • You crave silence and dark skies for aurora hunting
  • You appreciate a high-end, home-cooked breakfast over a buffet
  • You want to hike Neist Point before the tour buses arrive

Hreinlæti og viðhald

10
  • Housekeeping: Immaculate. Reviews consistently use words like 'spotless', 'pristine', and 'gleaming'.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Sparkling. Grout is white, glass is streak-free, no signs of mold anywhere.
  • Maintenance: Perfectly maintained. No peeling paint or broken fixtures found in recent reports.
  • Linens & towels: High quality, fresh, and plush. Bathrobes are often provided.
  • Odors & scents: Fresh and neutral, with hints of the 'Whisky & Honey' toiletries.

Gott að vita

  • The sauna is a highlight but often requires booking a slot — ask upon arrival.
  • The hosts, Jonathan and Simone, are a wealth of local knowledge; ask them for their 'secret' map.
  • WiFi is free and generally good, but mobile signal can be patchy in this part of Skye.

Hvað á að pakka

  • Slip-on shoes for the short walk to the outdoor sauna
  • Waterproof hiking boots (the ground is boggy even in summer)
  • Wine/Whisky and snacks — the nearest shop is miles away

Herbergis-Genie

Bestu val

  • Emma's Self Contained Apartment for total privacy and a kitchen
  • Sea-facing Double Rooms for the morning views over the Loch

Herbergi til að forðast

  • None are 'bad', but the rear-facing rooms obviously lack the dramatic sea views.

Herbergisbeiðna-Genie – afrita og líma

We would love a room with a direct view of Loch Pooltiel if possible. We are also very interested in booking a slot for the outdoor sauna during our stay.

Algengar spurningar og falin ábendingar

Allt sem þú vilt vita áður en þú bókar.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, for the B&B rooms it's a cooked masterpiece. For the self-catering apartment, it's often a generous hamper/continental setup.

Can I get dinner there?

Sometimes. Dinner is 'by arrangement' and focuses on fresh local fish, but don't count on it without confirming. Otherwise, book The Three Chimneys well in advance.

Is there parking?

Yes, plenty of free private parking on-site.

How far is Neist Point?

Very close — about a 5-10 minute drive or a scenic walk.

Are pets allowed?

No, they have a strict no-pets policy.

Is it hard to find?

It's at the end of a long road. Trust the GPS but keep going until you see the sign; it feels like the edge of the world.

Innherja ábendingar

  • Ask Jonathan about the walk to Ramasaig — it's a deserted village nearby that most tourists miss completely.

  • If you're staying in the apartment, stock up on groceries in Portree or Dunvegan before you drive out; the local Glendale shop is small.

  • The sauna has a glass wall facing the sea; try to time your session for sunset.

5 hlutir sem þú ættir að vita áður en þú ferð

  • 💡The tap water here is delicious Scottish hill water.

  • 💡You might spot eagles right from the breakfast table.

  • 💡The 'Highland Soaps' provided in the bathroom smell like whisky and honey.

  • 💡It's incredibly dark at night — bring a torch if you plan to walk to the car.

  • 💡The silence is so profound it can actually be startling to city dwellers.
