Gran Muthu Almirante Beach

$110-180 / nat

Bestil hvis You want the newest, most modern resort in Holguín that actually separates 'screaming kids at the waterpark' from 'adults sipping rum' effectively.

Hvorfor folk elsker det

  • The 'Maharaja' adults-only section is a legitimate sanctuary with its own pool and butler
  • Unexpectedly excellent Indian food at 'Spices' restaurant (a rarity in Cuba)
  • Modern, fresh rooms that don't feel like they're stuck in the 1990s

Hurtig oversigt: The hardware is five-star modern, but the food supply chain is still very much 'Cuban reality'—bring your own hot sauce and lower your culinary expectations.

Anmeldt af @NaomieCantin4089887I found this incredible rooftop spot at Gran Muthu Almirante Beach and didn't want to leave. The panoramic views of the ocean and the resort below are stunning, and it's so peaceful up there compared to the main beach area. It was my favorite place to unwind.

The hype

Travelers are shocked by how modern and clean the facility is compared to other Cuban resorts, but the repetitive buffet food is the universal complaint.

Reality check

You will likely drink 'coffee-flavored water' and eat pork for lunch and dinner every day unless you book the à la carte restaurants immediately upon arrival.

  • You need a resort that keeps toddlers busy (great water park) while you hide in the adult pool
  • You prioritize a modern, mold-free room over gourmet dining
  • You are open to upgrading to the 'Maharaja' section for a butler who can actually secure reservations

Renhed & Vedligeholdelse

8.8
  • Housekeeping: Diligent and friendly. Rooms are mopped daily. Towel art is standard.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Surprisingly good. Grout is white, no mold smells (a huge win for Cuba).
  • Maintenance: The hotel is new (2021), so peeling paint and broken AC are rare.
  • Linens & towels: Sheets are clean but thin/scratchy. Towels are often stained or old despite the new hotel.
  • Odors & scents: Lobby smells of fresh sea breeze; buffet can smell of frying oil.

  • The 'Splash' water park (screaming kids)
  • The nightly theater shows (loud bass until 11 PM)
  • Hallway echo in the main building

Før du booker

Godt at vide

  • The 'Maharaja' upgrade is often only $20-30 more per night and pays for itself in premium drinks and reservation access.
  • Wifi is free but requires a login ticket that expires; screenshot your login code.
  • The cigar lounge does not sell cigars; buy them at the shop across the street before you sit down.

Hvad skal du pakke

  • Insulated Bubba mug (bars run out of large cups, you'll get tiny plastic thimbles otherwise)
  • Hot sauce, ketchup, and peanut butter (these are almost never available)
  • Toilet paper (resort rooms have it, but public restrooms and the airport often don't)

Værelses-genie

Bedste valg

  • Maharaja Section (Adults Only) - specifically upper floors for ocean views and total silence
  • Block 6 (Standard) - furthest from the noisy pool/theater but still close to the beach

Værelser at undgå

  • Ground floor 'Double Splash' rooms - you are literally inside the water park
  • Rooms facing the main theater/boulevard - thumping bass until late

Værelses-anmodnings-genie – kopier og indsæt

I am requesting a room in the upper floors of Block 6 or the Maharaja section, specifically facing the ocean and AWAY from the 'Splash' water park and main theater to ensure quiet.

Ofte stillede spørgsmål og skjulte tips

Alt hvad du gerne vil vide før du booker.

Is the food really that bad?

It's edible but repetitive. Think pork, rice, pumpkin, and cucumbers. Breakfast is the hardest meal due to egg/bacon shortages.

Is the wifi usable?

Yes, it works in rooms and the lobby. It's fast enough for messaging and light browsing, but video calls are a gamble.

Do I need power adapters?

Most renovated rooms have 220V outlets that accept North American flat plugs, but a converter is safer for expensive electronics.

Is the beach rocky?

The entry is sandy, but there are rocky patches on the sides. Water shoes are recommended if you venture far from the main swim area.

Can I exchange money at the hotel?

Yes, but the rate is official (bad). You are better off bringing small USD/CAD bills for tips and not exchanging large amounts.

Is the Adults Only section worth it?

100% yes. The private pool, butler service for reservations, and 'Elite' restaurant (which actually has beef sometimes) make it essential.

Insidertips

  • The 'Mirador' (Viewpoint) bar on the roof has the best sunset view but weird hours—ask your butler to check when it's open.

  • Tip the gardener to get a fresh coconut; they aren't officially on the menu but are always available.

  • Book the Japanese restaurant for the 'show' but the Indian restaurant for the actual taste.

5 ting du bør vide før du tager af sted

  • 💡The 'Indian' restaurant is shockingly authentic because the chef is actually from India (rare for Cuba).

  • 💡The beach towels are often ragged or unavailable by noon—bring your own if you care about fluffiness.

  • 💡The 'Disco' is soundproofed well, but the 'Theater' is open-air and loud—check your room location relative to the stage.

  • 💡There is a hidden 'Cigar Bar' that is almost always empty and air-conditioned—a great place to escape the heat even if you don't smoke.

  • 💡The 'Animation Team' is aggressive about participation; if you want peace, sit at the far ends of the pool.
