Senda Monteverde Hotel

Réservez si You want a luxury 'soft adventure' base camp where you can hike a private reserve in the morning and drink craft cocktails by a fire pit at night.

Pourquoi les gens l'adorent

  • Unlimited free access to the neighboring Aguti Wildlife Reserve (a huge perk)
  • No AC needed—cool mountain breezes and cozy hot water bottles at turndown
  • The 'El Sapo' restaurant is actually a destination, not just a hotel backup plan

En bref : It's an upscale eco-lodge that feels isolated in the clouds but is actually just a 5-minute walk from the bustle of Santa Elena town.

Évalué par @SpiceC1I stayed here for a recharge and it was magical. My room had no TV, which I actually loved because the nature sounds were incredible. The highlight was dinner in a glass room overlooking the rainforest—watching the clouds roll in was unforgettable. Perfect for nature lovers.

Ce que les clients qui ont séjourné ici ont dit

The hype

Guests universally adore the staff's warmth and the 'luxury cabin' vibe, often citing the sunset views from the premium suites as a highlight.

Reality check

Some guests found the housekeeping's use of bug spray to be overpowering, leaving a chemical smell in the otherwise fresh mountain air.

  • You prioritize wildlife spotting over tanning
  • You want to walk to dinner in town but sleep in total silence
  • You appreciate sustainable luxury (no single-use plastics, solar heating)

Propreté et entretien

9.2
  • Housekeeping: Twice daily, including turndown service. Meticulous.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Spotless. Grout is clean, rainfall showers are well-maintained.
  • Maintenance: Excellent. The buildings are relatively new (opened ~2018) and show little wear.
  • Linens & towels: Crisp white linens, high thread count. Soft robes provided.
  • Odors & scents: Generally fresh mountain air, but occasional complaints of strong chemical bug spray used by housekeeping.

  • Howler monkeys at dawn (nature's alarm clock)
  • Wind rattling windows during stormy nights (common in cloud forests)

Avant de réserver

Bon à savoir

  • The minibar is free for the first round (local snacks and drinks).
  • They provide rubber boots and walking sticks for your hikes—save the luggage space.
  • Breakfast is included and is à la carte, not a sad buffet.

Quoi emporter

  • Lightweight rain jacket (it mists/rains almost daily)
  • Quick-dry hiking pants (jeans will never dry here)
  • Fleece or sweater for chilly evenings (it gets down to 60°F)

Génie des chambres

Meilleurs choix

  • Premium Suites (West Facing): These offer the best sunset views over the Gulf of Nicoya.
  • Senda Suite: The 2-bedroom standalone bungalow at the highest point of the property—maximum privacy and space.

Chambres à éviter

  • Superior Rooms near the reception if you want absolute seclusion (though even these are fairly quiet).
  • Lower-level bungalows if you want expansive ocean views (vegetation blocks them).

Génie de demande de chambre – copier & coller

I'd love to request a Premium Suite located higher up the hill for the best possible sunset views and privacy. If possible, please avoid the units closest to the main road/reception area.

FAQ et astuces cachées

Tout ce que vous voulez vraiment savoir avant de réserver.

Is there really no AC?

Correct. At 4,600ft elevation, it's naturally cool. Rooms have ceiling fans and cross-ventilation.

Can I walk to the Cloud Forest Reserve?

No, the main Monteverde Reserve is a drive. However, you can walk directly into the Aguti Wildlife Reserve from the hotel grounds.

Is the road to the hotel paved?

The main roads in Monteverde are now mostly paved, but the final stretch can be bumpy. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended but 4x4 isn't strictly mandatory anymore.

Are there bugs in the room?

It's the jungle, so yes, you might see a moth or beetle. But it's not infested. Keep screens closed.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes, they have 'Mini Explorer' kits and the Senda Suite is great for families, but there's no kids' club or pool.

How is the wifi?

Surprisingly fast and reliable for the location, good enough for video calls.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Ask for a 'night walk' tour directly on the property—you often see as much wildlife here as in the big reserves.

  • The hotel places hot water bottles in your bed during turndown service—a cozy surprise.

  • You can order a 'picnic backpack' from the kitchen to take on your hikes.

5 choses à savoir avant de partir

  • 💡The 'bug spray' smell after housekeeping can be intense—ask them to go light on it.

  • 💡The wind can be ferocious at night; it sounds like a storm even when it's dry.

  • 💡You don't need to book a tour to see sloths; staff often spot them right by the reception.

  • 💡The tap water is drinkable and filtered.

  • 💡The 'sunset' view is weather-dependent; cloud cover is common (it is a cloud forest, after all).
