  • The boat arrival across Lake Pichola is arguably the best hotel entrance in the world
  • Service is telepathic—staff seem to know what you want before you do
  • The architecture is a stunning, sprawling maze of domes and corridors that feels like a movie set

Stutt samantekt: It's a spectacular, manufactured Disney-for-adults version of India that is flawless, expensive, and slightly detached from the chaos of the real city.

Farið yfir af @ginagoestoI felt like I was living in a fairytale here. Waking up to these palace views and wandering the quiet gardens was the most peaceful experience of my life. If you want to feel like royalty, this is it.

The hype

Guests are universally floored by the beauty and service, often calling it the best hotel experience of their lives.

Reality check

The main complaints are the astronomical price of food/alcohol and the noise from peacocks (which scream like air horns) or weddings.

  • You want to feel like royalty for a few days
  • You love manicured, perfect environments where nothing is out of place
  • You have a high budget and don't mind paying $25+ for a cocktail

Hreinlæti og viðhald

9.9
  • Housekeeping: Telepathic. They clean when you leave for breakfast and turn down when you leave for dinner. Flawless.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Immaculate marble. No grout issues, no stray hairs. Hospital-grade clean.
  • Maintenance: The property is constantly being painted and polished. You will rarely see a chipped tile.
  • Linens & towels: Plush, high-thread-count, and replaced instantly if used.
  • Odors & scents: Smells of fresh jasmine and tuberose (real flowers are everywhere).

Gott að vita

  • The hotel was built in 2002; it is not an ancient palace like the Taj Lake Palace, but a modern tribute.
  • Breakfast is often not included in the base rate and costs ~INR 2200 ($26) per person.
  • Airport transfers are steep (~INR 4000), but Uber works in Udaipur for a fraction of the price.

Hvað á að pakka

  • Earplugs (for the peacocks and weddings)
  • Swimsuit (even in winter, the main pools are heated)
  • Formal wear (you will feel underdressed in shorts at dinner)

Herbergis-Genie

Bestu val

  • Premier Room with Semi-Private Pool (direct access to the moat-like pool is the signature experience)
  • Lake View rooms for the best sunsets (though some are set far back)

Herbergi til að forðast

  • Garden View rooms if you care about the 'wow' factor—they feel a bit enclosed
  • Rooms near the banquet halls if there's a wedding scheduled (ask in advance)

Herbergisbeiðna-Genie – afrita og líma

I am celebrating a special occasion and would love a Premier Room with direct pool access. Please ensure we are placed away from any banquet halls or wedding event spaces to minimize noise. If a Lake View upgrade is possible, we would be thrilled.

Algengar spurningar og falin ábendingar

Allt sem þú vilt vita áður en þú bókar.

Is the pool heated?

The main pools are heated. The semi-private pools connected to rooms are ONLY heated from November 1st to March 1st.

Can I walk to the city?

No. You are on the opposite bank. You need to take the hotel boat (free for guests) or a car to get to the City Palace/Old City.

Is it kid-friendly?

Surprisingly, yes. They have a kids' activity center and the staff dote on children, but it is a quiet, romantic atmosphere overall.

How much is dinner?

Expect to pay $80-120 USD for a dinner for two with drinks at the on-site restaurants.

Is it a real palace?

No. It was built from scratch in the early 2000s on former hunting grounds. It just looks 300 years old.

Are there mosquitoes?

Yes, especially near the lake and pools. The hotel fogs daily, but bring repellent for the evenings.

Innherja ábendingar

  • The boat arrival is the only way to arrive. If you come by car, you enter through a back gate that is far less impressive.

  • Ask the staff to show you the 'wildlife sanctuary' on the grounds—you can spot wild boar and spotted deer.

  • The spa pool is adults-only and significantly quieter than the main pool.

  • Order the 'Laal Maas' (spicy lamb curry) at the restaurant; it's the local signature dish and they do it well.

5 hlutir sem þú ættir að vita áður en þú ferð

  • 💡The peacocks are beautiful but sound like screaming children or air horns at 6 AM.

  • 💡There is a legend (and a white painted outline) of a flower seller bricked up in a wall near the property—ask a guide for the spooky story.

  • 💡The 'semi-private' pool is actually a long moat shared with all your neighbors; if they are loud, you will hear them.

  • 💡You might see wild boars roaming the outer grounds near the sanctuary fence.

  • 💡The architecture is 'fake old'—it's a masterpiece of modern craftsmanship, not a historic ruin.
