Yes, unfortunately. Without it, you are locked out of the best beach areas, premium liquor, and reliable dinner reservations. The 'standard' experience feels like second class.
Can I walk to Seven Mile Beach?
No. You are on Bloody Bay. It's a separate cove. You need a 10-minute taxi ride to get to the main Seven Mile strip.
Is the water warm in the swim-out pools?
No. They are unheated and often shaded by the buildings, making them surprisingly cold even in summer.
Is the resort adults-only?
It's a hybrid. 'Royalton Negril' is family-friendly; 'Hideaway at Royalton Negril' is adults-only. Hideaway guests can use the whole resort, but families cannot enter Hideaway areas.
How is the food?
Mediocre. The buffet (Gourmet Marché) is consistently better and fresher than the a la carte restaurants. The Jerk Hut by the pool is the culinary highlight.
Are there hidden fees?
Just the Jamaican government occupancy tax (approx $4/night) charged at checkout. Resort fees are technically included in the rate.
