Bay of Fires Bush Retreat

Reserva-ho si You want the romance of camping with a king bed, electric blanket, and a chef-stocked fridge, but don't mind walking to a shared bathroom.

Per Què Agrada Tant

  • The 'Platter Bar' and chef-prepared gourmet frozen meals
  • Stunning communal kitchen and fire pit atmosphere
  • Immaculately designed 'glamping' aesthetic that feels high-end

Vista ràpida: It's a glorified campsite with incredible food and comfy beds, but you're still sharing a toilet block with strangers.

Revisat per @larisajayneI stayed here for a weekend disconnect and it was incredible. The tent felt like a high-end hotel room, but stepping outside to the fire pit under the stars was the real highlight. The communal kitchen is actually super social and fun to cook in.

The hype

Guests are obsessed with the food and the 'vibe' of the communal areas, often calling it the highlight of their Tasmania trip.

Reality check

The walk to the bathroom in the middle of the night (especially in the rain) is a buzzkill for many.

  • You crave a social, communal atmosphere
  • You are a foodie who loves local produce but hates cooking from scratch
  • You want to disconnect (wifi is sluggish)

Abans de reservar

Bon a saber

  • The entrance is easy to miss—look for the subtle signage in the bush.
  • Reception closes around 6pm; late check-in requires prior arrangement.
  • The 'Honesty Bar' is well-stocked with local wines and craft beers.

Què portar

  • Slip-on shoes/Ugg boots for the midnight bathroom run
  • Headlamp or torch (it gets very dark)
  • Earplugs (essential for tent sleeping)

Geni d'Habitacions

Millors opcions

  • Bell Tents furthest from the amenities block for less foot traffic noise
  • The Bunk House if you are a group of 6 (but you still share the bathroom)

Habitacions a evitar

  • Tents closest to the communal kitchen/bathroom block if you want to sleep past 7am

Geni de Sol·licitud d'Habitacions – copia i enganxa

I'd love a Bell Tent positioned as far as possible from the amenities block and kitchen to minimize foot traffic noise.

Preguntes freqüents i consells amagats

Tot allò que realment vols saber abans de reservar.

Is there really no private bathroom?

Correct. There are 4 showers and 4 toilets in a high-end, unisex communal block. They are private individual cubicles, but you have to walk outside to get there.

Is there food on site?

Yes, but it's unique. There's a 'Platter Bar' and a freezer full of gourmet meals prepared by owner/chef Tom Dicker that you heat up yourself.

Is it cold in the tents?

It can be, but every tent has a heater, electric blankets, and hot water bottles. Most guests report being toasty warm even in winter.

Can I charge my phone in the tent?

Yes, tents have power points for charging devices.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes, families love the Bunk House and the safe, enclosed bush setting, but quiet hours are strictly enforced.

How far is the beach?

It's about a 2-minute drive or a 25-minute walk to Binalong Bay beach. It is not beachfront.

Consells de Professionals

  • Pre-order the breakfast ($25pp)—it's widely considered restaurant-quality and better than what you'll find in town.

  • Grab fresh oysters from 'Lease 65' down the road and eat them by the fire pit.

  • The communal kitchen has excellent knives and cookware, so you can actually cook a real meal if you bring groceries.

5 coses que cal saber abans de partir

  • 💡The 'sluggish' wifi is basically non-existent in some tents; you have to go to the kitchen to get a signal.

  • 💡You might wake up to a wallaby staring at you through the tent flap.

  • 💡The showers have watering buckets to collect excess water for the garden (eco-conscious).

  • 💡There is no daily housekeeping for the tents during your stay unless requested.

  • 💡The 'King Room' is just a bedroom in a building; it lacks the charm of the tents but has the same shared bathroom drawback.
