Flophouze Shipping Container Hotel

$175-300/ nuit

Réservez si You want to sleep inside a high-design architectural experiment surrounded by cows, antiques, and absolute silence.

Pourquoi les gens l'adorent

  • The 'Recycling the Past' salvage yard aesthetic (everything is for sale)
  • The shipping container pool (Modpool) with a glass side
  • Vinyl record players in every room instead of TVs

En bref : It’s basically a luxury salvage yard with excellent linens, but don't forget you're in a cow pasture—watch your step.

Évalué par @theandreaandrade : I stayed at Flophouze and it was the perfect Texas recharge. Sipping wine on my deck while watching the cows graze was so peaceful. The container pool is a total vibe, and I loved that my dog could roam free. Definitely check out the airplane fuselage on the property!

Ce que les clients qui ont séjourné ici ont dit

The hype

Guests are obsessed with the interior design and the peaceful pasture views, often calling it a 'unique' and 'serene' escape.

Reality check

The lack of on-site staff means if you need extra towels or have an issue late at night, you're largely on your own.

  • You love 'Antiques Roadshow' and industrial design
  • You want to disconnect (no TVs, spotty cell service, but free WiFi)
  • You enjoy drinking wine by a fire pit while watching cows

Propreté et entretien

9.5
  • Housekeeping: No daily housekeeping (it's more like an Airbnb), but units are spotless upon arrival.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Pristine. Tile work is excellent and rainfall showers are well-maintained.
  • Maintenance: High. Everything is 'reclaimed' but functions perfectly. No peeling paint or leaks found.
  • Linens & towels: High quality. Egyptian cotton sheets and fluffy towels.
  • Odors & scents: Smells like fresh wood and clean linen, with a hint of country air (and occasionally cows outside).

  • Rain hitting the metal roof (loud but soothing)

Avant de réserver

Bon à savoir

  • Check-in is contactless; look for the email with your door code.
  • The pool is heated in winter but can be refreshing (unheated) in peak summer.
  • You are 6 miles from Round Top and 10 miles from La Grange.

Quoi emporter

  • Boots or old shoes for walking the grounds (cow poop is real)
  • Groceries/Snacks (kitchenettes have microwaves/fridges but no stove)
  • Bug spray for evening fire pit sessions

Génie des chambres

Meilleurs choix

  • Houze VI ('Smooth Sailing') for the most space and a private bedroom layout
  • Houze I for the original 'galley' feel and proximity to the pool

Chambres à éviter

  • Houze III if you have more than 2 people (it gets cramped fast)

Génie de demande de chambre – copier & coller

I'd love to request Houze VI for the extra space, or any unit with the most unobstructed sunset view over the pasture.

FAQ et astuces cachées

Tout ce que vous voulez vraiment savoir avant de réserver.

Yes, dogs are welcome for a $30 fee (limit 2), but keep them off the furniture.

Is the pool open year-round?

Yes, the Modpool is open year-round and is heated during cooler months.

No. Each room has a record player with a curated vinyl collection instead.

Can I buy the furniture in my room?

Conseils d'initiés

  • The 'Recycling the Past' warehouse on-site is a treasure trove; ask for a peek if it's not open.

  • Bring your own charcoal if you plan to use the communal smoker/grill.

  • Sunset is the main event here—be back at your container by dusk with a drink in hand.

5 choses à savoir avant de partir

  • 💡The water pressure in the rainfall showers is surprisingly good for a shipping container.

  • 💡You might wake up to a cow staring directly into your window.

  • 💡The Chemex coffee makers are a nice touch, but bring your own ground coffee just in case.

  • 💡The 'walls' are often reclaimed wood from distilleries or bowling alleys, which smells amazing.

  • 💡It's dark—like, pitch black—at night. Use your phone flashlight walking from the car.
