Yes, mainly for access to the Magna restaurant (best steak/breakfast) and the private, quieter pool areas. The exclusive beach area is less of a draw due to the general beach conditions.

No, that's a major perk. You can walk into any restaurant (except the Teppanyaki/Hibachi tables at Spice) without a reservation.
Is the beach swimmable?
Often red-flagged. The water in Uvero Alto is rougher with stronger undertows than Bavaro. It's great for walking, but less ideal for casual swimming.
Is there a lot of seaweed?
