Book this if You want to wake up inside a fairytale postcard before the tour buses ruin the magic.
Why People Love It
Unbeatable location sandwiched directly between Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles
The '4 elements spa' has a heated indoor pool with direct views of the Alpsee lake
Extensive breakfast buffet that often keeps you full until dinner
Quick Take: A stunningly located resort that charges premium rates for a mix of slick modern luxury and historic rooms that lack air conditioning.
Reviewed by @thezaisers: I booked the corner suite for a weekend recharge and the views of Alpsee were unreal. Waking up to that sunrise and having coffee on the massive wrap-around terrace was worth every penny. The freestanding tub was the perfect bonus.
Guest Who Stayed Here Said
The hype
Travelers are obsessed with the location and the breakfast spread, but many are shocked by the lack of AC in the historic wings.
Reality check
While most find it spotless, a few recent guests (late 2025) reported serious housekeeping lapses like hair in 'clean' beds and stained glass.
You want to beat the crowds to the castles by being a 30-minute walk away
You appreciate a naked German sauna experience (it's 16+ and textile-free)
You are traveling with a dog and book the specific 'Galeria' rooms with terraces
Cleanliness & Maintenance
8.5
Housekeeping: Generally reliable daily service, though a recent severe review mentioned hair left in 'clean' sheets.
Bathroom hygiene: Modern bathrooms are spotless; historic ones have older grout but are kept clean.
Maintenance: New buildings are pristine; historic ones have creaky floors and occasional peeling paint.
Linens & towels: Standard hotel grade. Duvets are the separate 'German style' twins.
Odors & scents: Fresh alpine air in common areas; some historic rooms can smell faintly musty in humid weather.

5 things to know before you go
💡The 'lake view' rooms in the Alpenrose building have a better view than the 'castle view' rooms, which often just look at trees.
💡The hotel is actually a complex of 3 historic and 2 modern buildings connected by tunnels.
💡You can drink the tap water — it's fresh Alpine spring water.
💡The 'Jägerhaus' building uses actual metal keys, not keycards.
💡Room service stops relatively early; don't count on a midnight snack.
