Cape Weligama

$500-1200/ nuit

Réservez si You want the privacy of a colonial-style villa with the service of a top-tier resort, and you don't mind paying a premium for clifftop Indian Ocean views.

Pourquoi les gens l'adorent

  • The crescent-shaped 'Moon Pool' is arguably the most photographed infinity pool in Sri Lanka
  • Villas are massive (130sqm+) and feel like private residences rather than hotel rooms
  • Breakfast is a serious affair with hoppers, curries, and ocean views at Ocean Terrace

En bref : It’s a sprawling, stunning clifftop village that feels exclusive until a wedding takes over the lawn or you get a room near the service entrance.

Évalué par @BaileyLammon429095I stayed at Cape Weligama and it was pure paradise. The main infinity pool is iconic, but having my own private plunge pool was the real highlight. The food, the views, the vibe—everything was 10/10. Perfect for a romantic reset.

Ce que les clients qui ont séjourné ici ont dit

The hype

Travelers are universally blown away by the architecture and the Moon Pool, but some feel the food prices at the on-site restaurants are steep for what you get.

Reality check

Service can be 'island slow'—don't expect a New York minute response time for your buggy or room service.

  • You love the idea of a 'private village' layout where you can hide away in your watta (garden)
  • You are a pool person—the Moon Pool (adults) and Cove Pool (families) are world-class
  • You want to see peacocks and monitor lizards roaming the grounds while you sip tea

Propreté et entretien

9.5
  • Housekeeping: Twice daily service, generally excellent. 'Turn down service' includes mosquito coil lighting.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Stone bathtubs and steam rooms are kept pristine. No mold reports found.
  • Maintenance: Impeccable grounds. Grass is cut frequently (sometimes too noisily).
  • Linens & towels: High thread count, fresh, and plentiful.
  • Odors & scents: Smells of 'cinnamon and tea' (intentional) or fresh sea air.

  • Loading dock/service entrance traffic (mid-day)
  • Jungle wildlife (peacocks calling, monkeys on roof)
  • Ocean waves (loud but soothing for most)

Avant de réserver

Bon à savoir

  • The 'Moon Pool' is adults-only (12+); families must use the Cove Pool
  • You are about 30 minutes from Galle Fort—perfect for a day trip
  • There is a 10% service charge + 18% VAT added to almost everything—budget accordingly

Quoi emporter

  • Mosquito repellent (the jungle is alive and hungry)
  • Surf gear (or rent it locally) if you plan to hit Weligama Bay
  • Smart casual attire for dinner at Tableau (no swimwear allowed)

Génie des chambres

Meilleurs choix

  • Ocean Villa (upper floor) for the best unobstructed sea views
  • Cape Residence if you have a 'blow-out budget' and want total privacy
  • Pool Junior Suite for a balance of space and value (still huge at 130sqm)

Chambres à éviter

  • Villas near the main reception/loading dock area due to operational noise
  • Ground floor suites in shared villas if you are sensitive to footsteps above you

Génie de demande de chambre – copier & coller

I am celebrating a special occasion and would appreciate a quiet upper-floor Ocean Villa, specifically away from the loading dock and service entrance to avoid mid-day noise.

FAQ et astuces cachées

Tout ce que vous voulez vraiment savoir avant de réserver.

Is there a swimmable beach on site?

Sort of. There is a small, rugged cove accessible by steep stairs (West Beach), but it's often too rough for swimming. The hotel runs a shuttle to the main Weligama beach.

Is the food worth the high price?

Breakfast is excellent and included. Dinner at Tableau is a high-end 'experience' (£100+), while Ocean Terrace is solid but pricey. Many guests head into town for cheaper, fresher local eats.

Are kids allowed?

Yes, but they are restricted from the main Moon Pool. The Cove Pool is the designated family zone.

How private are the pools?

Most villas share a 'semi-private' pool with 2-3 other units in a cluster (watta). Only the top-tier residences have fully private pools.

Is it noisy?

Mostly no. It's set back from the main road, so traffic noise is rare. The main noise sources are the ocean and nature, unless you get a bad room assignment near the back of house.

Can I walk to restaurants?

Not easily. The resort is on a headland. You'll need a tuk-tuk (cheap and easy) to get to the cool cafes in Weligama town.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Ask the staff to set up a private breakfast on your villa veranda—it's often the same price as the restaurant but way more magical.

  • Look for the 'fireflies' that light up the grounds from October to January.

  • The 'Jungle Gym' is literally under the Moon Pool and has AC—a rare find in this humidity.

5 choses à savoir avant de partir

  • 💡The monitor lizards (thalagoya) are huge and will casually swim in the family pool.

  • 💡You might get a 'visit' from a purple-faced leaf monkey on your balcony—hide your snacks.

  • 💡The walk from the furthest villa to the restaurant can be a 10-minute hike in the heat (call a buggy).

  • 💡The 'West Beach' stairs are a serious workout; don't attempt it if you have bad knees.

  • 💡The service charge and taxes can add nearly 30% to your final bill, which shocks many guests at checkout.
