Sandals Dunn's River Falls

$900-1,400/ night

Book this if You want the newest, flashiest 'Sandals 2.0' experience and prioritize dining variety over a massive beach.

Why People Love It

  • 12 specialty restaurants (Greek, Sushi, Latin Fusion) that actually taste distinct
  • The 'Coyaba Sky Rondoval' villas with private rooftop terraces and telescopes
  • Resilient reopening: Fully operational post-Hurricane Melissa while other island resorts remain closed until May 2026

Quick Take: A stunning, modern resort that feels more 'Miami chic' than 'Reggae chill,' but the narrow, rocky beach and 90-minute airport transfer are buzzkills for the price.

Reviewed by @venessafaithmarcianoArriving here felt like a dream. I loved the little touches like the branded robe, but nothing beats sliding open those doors to that turquoise ocean view. It’s the perfect spot for a romantic getaway.

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Travelers rave about the 'Sandals 2.0' modern design and the incredible staff, but many feel the beach is underwhelming compared to Negril.

Reality check

The 'luxury' transfer is just a shared bus that waits for everyone to clear customs; upgrade to a private car if you hate waiting.

  • You are a foodie who gets bored with standard buffet fare
  • You want a room with a private pool (Skypool or Rondoval)
  • You prefer a compact, walkable resort over a sprawling mega-complex

Cleanliness & Maintenance

8
  • Housekeeping: Generally excellent daily service, though recent reports cite missed dusting in high corners.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Sparkling modern fixtures, but watch for 'sloppy grout' work in renovated Mammee Bay rooms.
  • Maintenance: Fresh post-2023 renovation, but humidity control is an issue; some 'musty' odors reported in hallways Jan 2026.
  • Linens & towels: High thread count, crisp and new. No complaints here.
  • Odors & scents: Lobby smells of fresh lemongrass; some corridors have a lingering damp/mildew scent post-hurricane.

Before you book

Good to know

  • Golf is 'free' but mandatory caddy/cart fees add up to ~$75/round
  • L'Amande is the only restaurant requiring reservations and long pants for men
  • Private airport transfers cost ~$100-200 one-way but save hours of frustration

What to pack

  • Water shoes (the beach is rocky)
  • Evening trousers for men (strictly enforced at L'Amande)
  • Small bills ($1, $5, $10) for tipping butlers and transfer drivers

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Coyaba Sky Villa Rondoval (privacy + rooftop terrace)
  • Tufa Terrace Skypool Suites (infinity pool on balcony, oceanfront)
  • Travertine Building (quietest location, garden views available)

Rooms to avoid

  • Mammee Bay Club Level rooms on low floors (noise from Riu + obstructed views)
  • 2nd floor Mammee Bay suites (balcony walls block the ocean view from bed)

Room Request Genie – copy & paste

Request a room in the Travertine building for quiet, or a high-floor Tufa Terrace suite for unobstructed ocean views. Please ensure we are NOT facing the Riu resort boundary.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the beach good for swimming?

It's swimmable but not great. The water is clear, but the sand strip is narrow and the entry is rocky. Bring water shoes.

How long is the ride from the airport?

From Montego Bay (MBJ), it's a solid 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic. Ian Fleming (OCJ) is closer but has very few flights.

Are the restaurants actually included?

Yes, all 12 are unlimited. Only private candlelight dinners on the beach cost extra.

Is it couples only?

Yes, strictly adult couples. No singles, no kids.

Do I need a butler suite?

Not necessarily. Club Level gets you room service and a lounge. Butler is worth it mainly for reserving prime pool chairs, which go fast.

Is the resort fully open after the hurricane?

Yes, reopened Dec 6, 2025. Fully operational, though some landscaping is still recovering.

Insider Tips

  • The 'Dunn's Rum Club' has a hidden menu of local rums—ask the bartender for a tasting flight.

  • Skip the main buffet for breakfast; Edessa offers a calmer à la carte morning menu.

  • You can take a free shuttle to Sandals Ochi to use their amenities/restaurants, but you probably won't want to (Dunn's is much nicer).

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'musty smell' in some hallways is a lingering complaint from post-hurricane humidity.

  • 💡The 'free' golf requires a mandatory caddy ($25) and cart ($30) plus tip.

  • 💡The main pool ('Waterfall Pool') is loud; the 'River Pool' is the true quiet zone.

  • 💡Glass bathrooms in some Mammee Bay rooms offer zero privacy—awkward if you're not *that* close.

  • 💡The transfer bus stops at a rest stop halfway where locals will aggressively try to sell you beer and snacks.
