Roomer

Anax Resort And Spa

$350-650/ night

Book this if You want a romantic, sunset-facing fortress of solitude that feels miles away from the Mykonos party chaos but is only a 10-minute shuttle ride from it.

Why People Love It

9.6275 reviews
  • The west-facing infinity pools offer arguably the best sunset views on the entire island
  • It’s dead quiet at night—a rarity in Mykonos
  • The breakfast buffet is massive and served until 11 AM for late risers

Quick Take: A stunning cliffside labyrinth that looks like a magazine spread but requires strong calves for the stairs and a thick wallet for the unheated private pools.

Reviewed by @CaseI stayed in this incredible suite at Anax Resort and it was the highlight of my Greek summer. The private pool is massive, and having a jacuzzi right in the bedroom made it the perfect romantic escape. Waking up to that Aegean blue every morning was unreal.

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Guests are obsessed with the architecture and the staff's warmth, often calling it a 'slice of heaven' away from the crowds.

Reality check

Travelers frequently complain that the private pools are freezing cold and the 'limited view' rooms feel like a letdown for the price.

  • You prioritize silence and sunsets over beach parties
  • You are comfortable navigating steep terrain and stairs
  • You plan to rent a car or rely on the hotel shuttle

Cleanliness & Maintenance

9.5
  • Housekeeping: Impeccable. Twice-daily service is standard, with turn-down service including fresh towels.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Sparkling. Grout is white, glass is streak-free. No reports of mold or mildew.
  • Maintenance: Excellent condition. The white Cycladic paint is kept fresh, though salt spray requires constant upkeep.
  • Linens & towels: Plush, high-thread-count white linens and thick, fluffy pool towels.
  • Odors & scents: Neutral and fresh. No musty smells, just the scent of the sea and occasional lavender from the spa.

Before you book

Good to know

  • The hotel offers a free airport shuttle, but you MUST book it 3 days in advance
  • The main infinity pools are saltwater and unheated
  • Room service and pool bar food is expensive (think $25+ for a club sandwich)

What to pack

  • Water shoes for the rocky private beach entry
  • A windbreaker for the cliffside breeze in the evenings
  • US/UK to EU power adapters (outlets are standard Type F)

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Luxury Beachfront Suite with Outdoor Jacuzzi (the ONLY room with a heated outdoor tub)
  • Anax Suite (best unobstructed sunset views and privacy)

Rooms to avoid

  • Exclusive Maisonettes with 'Limited View' (often blocked by other buildings)
  • Ground floor rooms near the main path if you want total privacy on your terrace

Room Request Genie – copy & paste

I am celebrating a special occasion and would love a room on a higher level to ensure an unobstructed sunset view. Please ensure I am NOT in a 'Limited View' Maisonette. If available, a room away from the main buggy path would be appreciated for privacy.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the pool heated?

No. The two main infinity pools and most private room pools are unheated saltwater. Only the large shared jacuzzi and the private jacuzzis in specific suites are heated.

Is it walking distance to town?

Not really. It's a 15-minute dangerous walk to Ornos, and a 10-minute drive to Mykonos Town (Chora). Use the shuttle or taxi.

Is there a sandy beach?

Sort of. There is a man-made sandy area with loungers, but the actual entry into the water is rocky. Agios Ioannis public beach (sandy) is a 5-minute walk.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes, but there are no specific kids' clubs or activities. It's a very adult, romantic vibe. The stairs might be tough for toddlers.

How is the WiFi?

Excellent. Guests consistently rate it 10/10, which is rare for Greek stone buildings.

Is breakfast included?

Yes, a massive buffet with Greek and international options is included in most rates and served until 11 AM.

Insider Tips

  • The 'Neraki' sunset bar often has better, less crowded views than the main restaurant terrace.

  • Walk 5 minutes north to Hippie Fish for dinner if you want a change of scene—it's where the movie 'Shirley Valentine' was filmed.

  • Ask for a room in the upper blocks (300s) for better privacy from the walkways.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'private beach' is technically a concrete platform with sand on top, not a natural beach.

  • 💡The wind can be ferocious on this side of the island; check the forecast for 'Meltemi' winds before booking a private dinner.

  • 💡You have to take two different elevators or a buggy to get from the lobby to the beach level.

  • 💡The gym is tiny and feels like an afterthought compared to the rest of the hotel.

  • 💡Standard 'Garden View' rooms can feel a bit dark and cave-like due to the stone architecture.
