The 'rustic-chic' aesthetic is genuinely Instagram-gold
Sunrise Beach location is arguably the best on the island
The deck hammocks are lethal—you will lose hours in them
Quick Take: A stunningly photogenic eco-resort that forces you to decide how much you actually need air conditioning and hot showers.
Reviewed by @paulienbeale: I stayed in this beachfront bungalow and the view was absolutely unreal. Waking up to the sound of waves and walking straight into that turquoise water was the highlight of my Thailand trip. It feels so secluded and peaceful, perfect for disconnecting.

The hype
Travelers adore the chill boho vibe and the staff, but the heat and mosquitoes break the weak.
Reality check
You will be waking up at 6 AM whether you like it or not—either from the heat, the sunrise, or the longtail boat engines roaring on the beach.
You are comfortable sleeping in 80°F (27°C) heat with just a fan
You prioritize direct beach access over modern luxuries
You want a social, backpacker-luxe atmosphere
Cleanliness & Maintenance
8
Housekeeping: Daily service is thorough, but fighting nature (sand and dust) in an open hut is a losing battle.
Bathroom hygiene: Clean but rustic. Grout and concrete floors are well-scrubbed, but don't expect sparkling porcelain.
Maintenance: Wood is weathered (intentionally), but mosquito nets are generally hole-free.
Linens & towels: Fresh and white, though towels can feel a bit damp due to the humidity.
Odors & scents: Smells like sea salt, old wood, and occasionally burning mosquito coils.

FAQ & Hidden tips
Everything you actually want to know before you book.
Is there really no AC?
Correct. Zero AC. The bungalows are designed to catch the breeze, but in April/May, it gets stifling hot.
How bad are the bugs?
It's an open-air jungle hut. You will see ants, mosquitoes, and geckos in your room. Use the net religiously.
Is breakfast included?
Usually no. It's à la carte and costs around 200-300 THB per person.
How do I get there from the ferry?
Speedboats drop you at a floating pontoon. You then pay 50 THB for a longtail boat to the beach. Castaway is right on Sunrise Beach, so you can often get dropped directly in front.
Is there hot water?
No. The showers are 'ambient temperature' fresh water. Refreshing in the heat, but a shock in the morning.
Can I charge my electronics?
Yes, there are power outlets (Type A/B/C), but electricity can be intermittent during island storms.
Insider Tips
✨
The 'Happy Hour' at the bar (4-6 PM) is legit—2-for-1 cocktails and a great social scene.
✨
Book a massage at the on-site sala; it's open-air and you can hear the ocean while you get pummeled.
✨
If you're a light sleeper, ask for a second fan at reception immediately upon check-in.
5 things to know before you go
💡The stairs to the bedroom are more like a ship's ladder—sober navigation required.
💡You can hear your neighbors peeing because the bathrooms have no soundproofing.
💡The 'sand flies' on the beach can be worse than mosquitoes; don't lay directly on the sand without a mat.
💡There is no fridge in the room, so you can't keep your own drinks cold.
💡The resort cats are friendly and will absolutely try to enter your bungalow.
