  • Every single room has a private infinity plunge pool
  • Extremely quiet, secluded adults-only atmosphere

Quick Take: It's a beautiful, remote hideaway, but the food is hit-or-miss, the beach requires a shuttle, and you'll be battling aggressive mosquitoes and dining-area birds.

Reviewed by @krissyalyssax3My stay at Escape At Nonsuch Bay was the ultimate romantic getaway. We paid $120 to skip the airport lines, which was totally worth it. Waking up to a private plunge pool and ocean views made my birthday unforgettable. The staff even surprised me with champagne!

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

A stunningly quiet romantic escape with amazing private pools and friendly staff.

Reality check

The all-inclusive food menu is very limited, service can be slow, and the wildlife (birds at breakfast, mosquitoes at night) can be overwhelming.

  • Couples celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary
  • Travelers who just want to read a book in a private pool
  • People looking to completely unplug away from crowds

Cleanliness & Maintenance

7
  • Housekeeping: Housekeeping is only provided on alternate days. Some guests report missed spots and limited towel replacements.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Generally clean, but the partially open bathroom design means bugs and mosquitoes easily get in.
  • Maintenance: Mostly well-maintained, but multiple complaints mention green algae in the private plunge pools and tricky AC thermostats.
  • Linens & towels: Clean and comfortable, but guests frequently complain about a lack of extra towels in the room.
  • Odors & scents: Fresh ocean air, though the heavy presence of mosquitoes means you'll likely be smelling bug spray.

Best picks

Rooms to avoid

  • Rooms near the main restaurant/bar if you want absolute silence

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is there a beach at the resort?

Not directly at the Escape. You have to walk down a steep hill or take a quick shuttle to the sister property (Nonsuch Bay Residences) to access the beach.

Is the food good?

It's decent but limited. Because it's a boutique 40-room hotel, there's only one restaurant with a small rotating menu, and snacks between meals are mostly fried foods.

Are drinks included?

Yes, standard alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks are included, but bespoke wines and champagnes will be charged to your room.

How far is it from the airport?

It's about a 40 to 45-minute drive from V.C. Bird International Airport, and a taxi/shuttle costs around $95 one-way.

Is housekeeping daily?

No, the resort explicitly states that housekeeping is provided on alternate days.

Can I walk to other restaurants?

No. The resort is extremely secluded on the east coast of Antigua. You will need a car or taxi to go anywhere else.

Insider Tips

  • Hang the provided seashell outside your door to request housekeeping, or place it inside for 'do not disturb'.

  • Wednesdays feature a live steel band and DJ—the best night for a lively atmosphere.

  • Take advantage of the free kayaks and paddleboards down at the bay dock.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The private plunge pools are unheated and can sometimes develop green algae if maintenance misses a beat.

  • 💡Birds are notoriously aggressive during breakfast and lunch, swooping in to steal food.

  • 💡The AC units in the rooms are difficult to adjust and often leave the room freezing cold.

  • 💡There is no on-site convenience store for basic necessities or late-night snacks.

  • 💡The walk between the Escape and the main Nonsuch Bay beach is incredibly steep and brutal in the midday heat.
