Why People Love It

8.794 reviews
  • Architectural marvels made entirely of bamboo
  • Immersive jungle setting with river sounds
  • Private plunge pools and copper baths in most units

Quick Take: It is visually spectacular and photogenic, but it is effectively upscale camping—expect bugs, humidity, and zero soundproofing.

Reviewed by @TravelholicdayI stayed in this bamboo house and it was pure magic. Waking up to the mist rolling over the jungle and the sound of the river right below me was the best reset. It’s rustic but totally worth it for the vibes.

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Guests are blown away by the magical design and peaceful river sounds, often calling it a 'once in a lifetime' stay.

Reality check

Many are surprised by the lack of AC in the larger units and the intensity of the morning rooster/nature noise.

  • You are an adventurous couple who loves nature
  • You want world-class photos for your feed
  • You can sleep through (or enjoy) loud river and jungle noise

Cleanliness & Maintenance

8
  • Housekeeping: Daily cleaning is thorough, but the open nature means dust and leaves reappear instantly.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Clean rustic chic, but expect some mold/mildew on bamboo in wet areas due to humidity.
  • Maintenance: Bamboo ages quickly; expect some creaky floorboards and weathered materials.
  • Linens & towels: Fresh and clean, though they can feel slightly damp due to the jungle air.
  • Odors & scents: Smells of fresh rain, wet earth, and occasionally burning wood from nearby villages.

Before you book

Good to know

  • There is no main restaurant seating; the 'Bistro' is a kitchen that delivers meals to your room.
  • The location is remote (90 mins from Ubud), so plan to stay on-site or book a driver.
  • Breakfast is included and cooked to order.

What to pack

  • High-strength bug spray (essential)
  • Earplugs for the roosters
  • Slip-on shoes for going between indoor/outdoor spaces

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Hideout Beehive for the best balance of space, pool luxury, and privacy
  • Hideout Bali (The OG) if you absolutely need AC (it has it in the bedroom)
  • Hideout Horizon for the most dramatic, open-air adventurous design

Rooms to avoid

  • Hay House if you want privacy (farmers walk right by)
  • Horizon if you are afraid of sleeping in the open (it is very exposed)

We are celebrating a special occasion and would love a unit with the most privacy from the walking paths. If available, we prefer a unit with a heated pool option.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is there air conditioning?

Mostly no. The original 'Hideout Bali' and 'Reflection' have AC in bedrooms, but open-air units like Horizon and Beehive rely on fans and natural breeze.

Are there bugs in the room?

Yes, absolutely. It is an open-air bamboo structure in the jungle. You will see frogs, geckos, spiders, and moths.

Is it private?

Varies by unit. Beehive has a private gate and pool. Hay House has farmers walking nearby. Horizon is very open visually.

How is the food?

Good but simple. The on-site 'Bistro' delivers Indonesian and Western comfort food to your room. There are few other options nearby.

Is there WiFi?

Yes, and it is surprisingly fast (often fiber or Starlink), suitable for basic remote work, though storms can affect it.

Can I lock my room?

In most units, you lock the garden gate, not the house itself. The bamboo structures are open and cannot be hermetically sealed.

Insider Tips

  • Book a massage—the therapists come directly to your bamboo house and set up by the river sounds.

  • The 'Campuhan' (river meeting point) on-site is considered holy by locals; you might see ceremonies there.

  • Order dinner early (before 8pm) as the kitchen closes and you are miles from anywhere else.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The humidity is intense; nothing ever feels 100% dry.

  • 💡You might wake up to a dog or cat (the property pets) wandering into your open living room.

  • 💡The 'walls' in some bathrooms are just bamboo screens—you are showering with nature.

  • 💡Getting there involves a winding, narrow road that can be motion-sickness inducing.

  • 💡The lighting is very dim at night to keep bugs away, so bring a headlamp if you want to read.
