Kamandalu Ubud

$170-600/ night

Book this if You want the quintessential 'Bali honeymoon' photo op with a floating breakfast and jungle views without paying Four Seasons prices.

Why People Love It

8.02 reviews
  • The 'floating breakfast' in private pool villas is legendary (and actually tasty)
  • Awana Pool offers that dramatic jungle-edge infinity view you see on Instagram
  • Designed like a traditional Balinese village with terraced rice paddies right on property

Quick Take: It’s an Instagram factory disguised as a traditional village—stunningly beautiful, but expect to see people staging photoshoots at the pool all day.

Reviewed by @wander.liciousI still can't believe this lunch was real! Floating on a yellow boat surrounded by thousands of koi fish was pure magic. The food was delicious, but honestly, feeding the fish while drifting in the lagoon makes this a total bucket list moment. You have to try this!

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Guests are blown away by the romantic atmosphere and staff hospitality, often citing it as a honeymoon highlight.

Reality check

The 'Garden Villas' often lack privacy compared to 'Valley Villas'—you might hear your neighbors or have people walking past your 'private' garden.

  • You are on a honeymoon or romantic getaway
  • You want a private pool villa experience for under $400/night
  • You prefer a self-contained resort vibe over exploring the streets on foot

Cleanliness & Maintenance

8.5
  • Housekeeping: Twice daily service (including turndown) is thorough.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Generally sparkling, though some older grout lines show age.
  • Maintenance: Most villas are pristine, but look out for peeling varnish on outdoor decks due to humidity.
  • Linens & towels: High quality, crisp white linens. Towels are fluffy and plentiful.
  • Odors & scents: Lobby smells of fresh flowers; some older chalets can have a faint musty smell after rain.

Before you book

Good to know

  • The free shuttle to Ubud center runs 10am-9pm; outside these hours, Grab bikes/cars are easy to get.
  • Floating breakfast costs extra (~$47 USD) unless booked as a specific package.
  • The resort is hilly with many stairs; not ideal for those with mobility issues.

What to pack

  • Strong mosquito repellent (resort provides some, but bring your preferred brand)
  • Universal travel adapter (Indonesian plugs are Type C/F)
  • Slip-on shoes for easy on/off at villas and spa

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Valley Pool Villa (unbeatable privacy and jungle views)
  • Pool Villa (if Valley is sold out, but ask for one away from the main path)

Rooms to avoid

  • Ubud Chalet (entry-level, can feel dated and lacks the 'wow' factor)
  • Garden Villas near the main walkways (privacy issues)

I am celebrating a special occasion and would love a Valley Pool Villa that is specifically located away from the main Aira pool to ensure maximum privacy and quiet. High floor/elevation preferred for best jungle views.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the floating breakfast worth it?

For the photo? Yes. For the food? It's decent, but you're paying for the experience. Book it once for the memory, then stick to the buffet.

Can I walk to Ubud Center?

Technically yes (45+ mins), but it's on a busy road (Jl. Andong) with poor sidewalks. Not recommended. Take the shuttle or a $3 Grab.

Is it private?

Valley Pool Villas are very private. Garden Villas and Chalets are less so, often visible from pathways.

Are there bugs in the room?

Yes. It's an open-concept resort in a tropical valley. You will see ants and geckos. Housekeeping is good, but nature always wins.

Which pool is better?

Awana Pool for quiet, jungle views, and adult vibes. Aira Pool for swim-up drinks and socializing.

Is the internet good enough for work?

Generally reliable in rooms and public areas, but speeds can fluctuate during storms.

Insider Tips

  • Book a 'Boat Picnic' lunch on the lagoon—it's cheaper than the romantic dinner and just as magical.

  • The 'Forest Swing' at the spa is free for spa guests; you don't need to pay for the separate 'Bali Swing' tourist traps nearby.

  • Request a villa on the 'sunrise' side if you're an early riser for incredible light over the rice terraces.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'rice paddies' on site are working fields—you might see farmers tending them right outside your villa.

  • 💡The shower heads in some older villas are mounted quite low (awkward for tall guests).

  • 💡You can hear the pool playlist from some of the nearest villas—ask to be away from the 'Aira' pool.

  • 💡The monkeys from the forest do occasionally visit; keep your terrace doors locked when you aren't there.

  • 💡Room service prices are actually reasonable compared to other 5-star resorts in the area.
