Moon Palace Jamaica

$380-600/ night

Book this if You want a high-energy, family-focused all-inclusive where the FlowRider and Dolphin Cove matter more than a quiet, romantic room.

Why People Love It

7.9720 reviews
  • FlowRider surf simulator and on-site Dolphin Cove
  • Central Ocho Rios location near Dunn's River Falls
  • Boulangerie's 24-hour crepes and coffee

Quick Take: A 'palatial' resort that feels more like a busy Vegas hotel than a chill Caribbean escape, with small rooms and loud pools.

Reviewed by @traveling_with_diva_I stayed in the Family Suite at Moon Palace Jamaica and it was huge! Having a separate master wing meant we actually relaxed while the kids had their own space. The ocean views from the balcony are absolutely insane.

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Families love the activities and kids' club, but couples often find it too loud and the rooms too small.

Reality check

The 'Resort View' is actually a 'Street View' with traffic noise, and the bathrooms in the North Tower are 'unforgivably small'.

  • You have active kids who need constant entertainment (FlowRider, playroom)
  • You want to be walking distance to Ocho Rios town
  • You prefer a high-rise hotel feel over a sprawling bungalow layout

Cleanliness & Maintenance

8
  • Housekeeping: Generally reliable daily service, though mini-bar restocking is often missed.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Clean but dated in some sections; complaints of moldy smell in North Tower AC vents.
  • Maintenance: Elevators are a major pain point; frequent breakdowns reported.
  • Linens & towels: Standard hotel quality, sometimes worn but clean.
  • Odors & scents: Lobby smells fresh (signature scent), but hallways can smell damp or musty.

Sleepability™

MODERATE
0-4LOUD

7.5-10SILENT
  • Loud music from the main pool deck (until late)
  • Street traffic and honking (North Tower Resort View)
  • Thin walls connecting rooms

Before you book

Good to know

  • Resort credits are not 'free money' — you pay 16% of the face value in real cash.
  • Dinner reservations are required for Momo (Asian) and can be made 2 days in advance via the app.
  • The beach is a man-made cove, not a long stretch of open sand.

What to pack

  • Water shoes (for Dunn's River Falls and the rocky parts of the beach)
  • Your own insulated cup (bars will fill it to keep drinks cold)
  • Small bills for tipping off-resort guides and drivers

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Cabana Building (suites) for a quieter location near the 'Platinum' area
  • Main Building (South Tower) high floors for better views and less street noise

Rooms to avoid

  • North Tower 'Deluxe Resort View' (faces noisy Main Street)
  • North Tower rooms near the elevator (noise + traffic)

Room Request Genie – copy & paste

I am requesting a room in the Cabana Building or a high floor in the Main Building (South Tower). Please avoid the North Tower 'Resort View' side due to street noise sensitivity.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the beach private?

Yes, but it is a small, man-made cove shared with cruise ship views, not a sprawling open beach.

Are the dolphins free?

No. Swimming with dolphins is an extra cost (often payable with resort credits + 16% fee).

Is the food actually good?

Hit or miss. The Jerk Hut and Boulangerie are standouts; the steak at Pier 8 gets consistent complaints.

Can I walk into town?

Yes, you are right on Main Street in Ocho Rios, walking distance to markets and local food.

Is there a resort fee?

No daily resort fee, but the 'Resort Credit' service charge acts like a hidden cost if you use the credits.

Is it adults-only?

No, it is very family-oriented. There are adult-only areas like the Piano Bar and Club Noir.

Insider Tips

  • The 'Loud Bar' lives up to its name; avoid rooms directly above it if possible.

  • Order the 'Bob Marley' drink at the swim-up bar — it's a layered frozen classic.

  • The Jerk Hut by the beach serves better chicken than the main buffet.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'Resort View' rooms look directly at a busy road and a Burger King.

  • 💡You have to wear a wristband that signals your membership level (and service priority).

  • 💡The elevators can take 10+ minutes during peak breakfast/dinner times.

  • 💡The 'beach' view often includes a massive cruise ship docked right next to the resort.

  • 💡Room service breakfast is decent but can take 45+ minutes to arrive.
