Quick Take: A stunningly designed fashion hotel stranded in a business district that's still under construction, offering 5-star style for 4-star prices.

Reviewed by @Manana_designI checked into SO/ Uptown Dubai and honestly, I never wanted to leave. The room design is stunning, but that bed? It’s like falling into a cloud. If you need a serious recharge where you can just be yourself, this is the place.

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Reviewers are obsessed with the design, scents, and views, but frequently frustrated by 'style over substance' service lapses.

Reality check

Service can be arrogant or slow—expect to wait 20+ minutes for towels or room service while the staff focuses on looking cool.

  • You care more about aesthetics and vibes than traditional white-glove service
  • You want a luxury high-rise experience for under $200/night
  • You enjoy dressing up for breakfast

Cleanliness & Maintenance

9.1
  • Housekeeping: Generally sharp, but occasional reports of missed items (towels, water) and slow replenishment.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Immaculate. Marble finishes are new and well-maintained. No mold or grout issues reported.
  • Maintenance: Brand new building, so everything works. Minor teething issues with smart room controls reported.
  • Linens & towels: High thread count, crisp and fresh. Towels are fluffy but sometimes in short supply.
  • Odors & scents: Signature hotel scent is everywhere. Rooms smell fresh, no mustiness.

Before you book

Good to know

  • Tourism Dirham fee is AED 20 (~$5.50) per bedroom, per night, payable at hotel.
  • A credit card security deposit of ~AED 500-1000 is standard upon check-in.
  • The hotel is in the Uptown Tower, which also houses offices—lobby can get busy with non-guests.

What to pack

  • Your best resort wear—the pool deck is a fashion show
  • Earplugs if you end up on a mid-level floor near the club
  • Uber/Careem app—you will need taxis to get anywhere comfortably

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Studio King with Marina Skyline View (worth the upgrade over Island view)
  • Corner rooms for the unique dual-aspect layout (though windows can be smaller)

Rooms to avoid

  • Floors 33 and 35 (buffer zones for Celeste Nightclub on Level 34)
  • Rooms directly facing the elevator lobby (noise bleed)

Room Request Genie – copy & paste

I am a light sleeper and kindly request a room on a high floor (40+ if possible) facing the Marina Skyline. Please ensure I am NOT on floor 33 or 35 to avoid noise from Celeste, and away from the elevator landing.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the pool heated?

Yes, the outdoor pool is temperature-controlled year-round, but it's more for lounging with a cocktail than swimming laps.

Can I walk to the beach?

No. JBR Beach is a 10-15 minute drive. The hotel offers a shuttle, but don't count on walking in the Dubai heat.

Is breakfast included?

Depends on your rate. The buffet at Brasserie Uptown is excellent but pricey (~AED 145). Look for the 'Breakfast Express' deal for AED 50 if you just want coffee and a main.

Is it near the Metro?

DMCC Metro Station is the closest, but it's a 15-20 minute walk through JLT. In summer, this is unwalkable. Take a taxi.

Are kids allowed in the pool?

Technically yes, but the vibe is very 'adult beach club' with house music. There is no separate kids' pool or splash pad.

Is there construction noise?

Yes. The 'Uptown Dubai' district is still being built. While the tower itself is finished, surrounding plots have active cranes and ground work.

Insider Tips

  • Ask for the 'Breakfast Express' menu at Brasserie Uptown if you don't want the full AED 145 buffet—it's a steal at AED 50.

  • The 'Uptown Social' cafe in the tower lobby is pet-friendly (even though the hotel isn't) and has great coffee.

  • Use the JLT pedestrian bridges to cross Sheikh Zayed Road if you want to explore the Marina side without a taxi.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'corner rooms' sometimes have surprisingly small windows compared to the standard rooms.

  • 💡The lobby scent is intense—if you are sensitive to perfume, it might be overwhelming.

  • 💡You have to take two elevators to get to your room (Ground to Sky Lobby, then Sky Lobby to Room).

  • 💡The 'Island View' is mostly looking at the Jumeirah Islands villas and desert—Marina View is far superior.

  • 💡Room service tray pickup can take hours, leaving hallways cluttered with dirty dishes.
