Village Igloo Val Thorens

Buchen Sie dieses Hotel, wenn You want a once-in-a-lifetime 'I slept in an igloo' story and don't mind sacrificing running water to get it.

Warum Gäste es lieben

  • Legitimate bucket-list adventure carved from snow
  • Fondue dinner included in the price (and it's actually good)
  • Dead silence of sleeping inside a snowbank

Kurzfassung: It is an expensive, freezing cold camping trip with better cheese and no shower.

Bewertet von @clahuynhI spent the night in a literal igloo at 0°C and it was magical! The ice sculptures are insane, and the fondue dinner kept us warm. Don't worry about the cold—the sleeping bags are super toasty. A total bucket list experience!

Was Gäste, die hier übernachtet haben, sagten

The hype

An unforgettable magical experience that everyone is glad they did once, but almost no one wants to do twice.

Reality check

The cold is relentless, and the 8:30 AM departure feels abrupt after a rough night of sleep.

  • You thrive on Type 2 fun (miserable now, great story later)
  • You are a couple looking for a romantic 'survival' bonding experience
  • You love fondue enough to eat it in a freezer

Sauberkeit & Instandhaltung

8
  • Housekeeping: N/A. It's a one-night stay. They change the sleeping bag liners daily.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Dry toilets are kept decent, but it's still a bucket system. No running water means hand sanitizer is your best friend.
  • Maintenance: The structure is rebuilt every year, so it's always 'new' snow.
  • Linens & towels: You get a fresh liner for the sleeping bag. No towels provided (no shower).
  • Odors & scents: Smells like snow, damp wool, and cheese fondue.

Vor der Buchung

Gut zu wissen

  • There is NO electricity in the igloos. Bring a fully charged power bank.
  • Luggage storage is not provided at the igloo; leave suitcases in your car or at a luggage service in Val Thorens.
  • Meeting point is at Place Caron; you will hike/walk about 15 minutes to the site.

Was Sie einpacken sollten

  • Thermal base layers (merino wool) to sleep in—do not sleep naked
  • Beanie hat (you lose heat through your head while sleeping)
  • Headlamp (it is pitch black at night if you need the toilet)
  • Hand warmers/Toe warmers for inside the sleeping bag
  • Power bank for your phone (cold drains battery instantly)

FAQ & Geheimtipps

Alles, was Sie vor der Buchung wirklich wissen möchten.

Is there really no shower?

Zero. None. You will leave smelling like fondue and woodsmoke.

How cold is it inside?

It stays around 0°C to -2°C. The sleeping bags are rated for polar temps, so your body will be warm, but your nose will be cold.

What happens if I need to pee at 3 AM?

You unzip your warm bag, put on your boots and coat, and walk to the dry toilet shed outside.

Is dinner included?

Yes, a traditional Savoyard fondue dinner and wine are included in the rate.

Can I charge my phone?

Generally no. There are no outlets in the igloos. Bring a battery pack.

Check-in/out times?

Strict. Check-in at 7 PM (meeting at Place Caron), check-out by 8:30 AM.

Insider-Tipps

  • Do not drink too much wine at dinner; the 3 AM toilet run is a nightmare you want to avoid.

  • Put your clothes for the next day INSIDE your sleeping bag at the bottom so they are warm when you put them on.

  • Keep your phone inside the sleeping bag too, or the battery will die from the cold.

5 Dinge, die Sie wissen sollten, bevor Sie losfahren

  • 💡The 'mattress' is on a block of ice; the cold radiates up if you move off the animal skins.

  • 💡You have to brush your teeth outside in the snow using a water bottle.

  • 💡The walk to the igloo can be slippery; wear proper snow boots with grip.

  • 💡8:30 AM checkout is jarring; you are basically evicted onto the ski slope before the lifts even open.

  • 💡The fondue smell permeates everything you wear.
