Perché piace così tanto

8.620 recensioni
  • Genuine 1905 colonial farmhouse history (Von Trapp family connection)
  • Lush, monkey-filled gardens that feel like a private botanical park
  • The trout-filled lake with a complimentary punt boat for lazy afternoons

In sintesi: It’s a historic time capsule where the floors creak, the bathtubs are deep, and the monkeys are your alarm clock.

Recensito da @momi_m_sI felt like I stepped back in time here. The gardens are massive and so green, but the highlight was definitely the private boat ride. We just drifted on the lake with drinks, totally surrounded by nature. It’s the most peaceful spot I’ve found in Arusha.

Cosa hanno detto gli ospiti che hanno soggiornato qui

The hype

Travelers adore the lush gardens and 'old world' charm, often calling it the perfect soft landing in Tanzania.

Reality check

Service operates on 'pole pole' (slowly slowly) time—don't expect Manhattan-speed espresso or instant check-ins.

  • You appreciate historic charm over modern sterility
  • You need a quiet place to recover from jet lag before a safari
  • You are traveling with kids (playground, pool, and arcade room available)

Pulizia e manutenzione

9
  • Housekeeping: Daily and thorough, with turn-down service that includes mosquito net prep.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Clean but dated. Grout and tiles show their age, but no grime. Bathtubs are deep and old-school.
  • Maintenance: Generally well-kept grounds. Some peeling paint or creaky floorboards in the 1905 Main House add to the 'shabby chic' charm.
  • Linens & towels: Fresh and crisp, though towels can be a bit thinner than luxury 5-star standards.
  • Odors & scents: Smells of fresh cut grass, old wood, and wax polish. No mustiness despite the age.

Prima di prenotare

Buono a sapersi

  • The lodge runs on hydro-power from its own spring
  • Dinner is often a set menu 'family style' affair, not a la carte
  • The 'Sound of Music' connection is real—it was once a Von Trapp family farm

Cosa portare

  • Warm fleece or jacket (Arusha gets surprisingly chilly at night)
  • US dollars printed after 2013 for tips and extras
  • Earplugs if you don't want to wake up with the monkeys at 6 AM

Genio delle camere

Migliori scelte

  • Garden Rooms (specifically #1-4) for privacy and Zanzibar-style decor
  • Summit Suite for a massive loft experience with Kilimanjaro views
  • Farm Cottage if you are a family needing 3 bedrooms and a kitchen

Camere da evitare

  • Main House suites if you are a light sleeper (creaky floors and noise from the dining room below)
  • Garden rooms furthest from the path if you have mobility issues (uneven ground)

Genio delle richieste camera – copia e incolla

I'd love to request one of the Garden Rooms with a view of the lake if possible, or a room away from the main path for extra quiet. We are celebrating a special occasion.

FAQ e consigli nascosti

Tutto ciò che vuoi davvero sapere prima di prenotare.

Is there air conditioning?

No, and you won't need it. The altitude keeps nights cool, and rooms have fans and mosquito nets.

Can I see Kilimanjaro from the lodge?

Yes, on clear days (usually early morning or late afternoon), especially from the Main House veranda or the Summit Suite.

Is the pool heated?

No, the 30m pool is unheated and can be 'refreshing' (read: cold) depending on the season.

How far is it from Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)?

About a 30-40 minute drive, making it a much better arrival point than driving all the way into Arusha city (1+ hour).

Is the water safe to drink?

Do not drink tap water. The lodge provides filtered spring water in rooms and the restaurant.

Are activities included?

Boating on the lake is usually free/tip-based. Horse riding (~$40-60) and spa treatments are extra.

Suggerimenti degli Insider

  • Ask to have your dinner served in the 'Lake Pavilion' for a private, romantic vibe.

  • The trout on the menu is often fresh from the lodge's own lake—order it.

  • Walk to the yoga deck at sunrise for the best chance to see Mt. Meru without clouds.

5 cose da sapere prima di partire

  • 💡The 'Arcade Room' is a bit of a random addition for a colonial lodge, but kids love it.

  • 💡The path to the Garden Rooms can be dark and uneven—bring a phone torch.

  • 💡Hot water can take a minute to arrive in the older bathrooms; be patient.

  • 💡You might find a 'bush baby' (galago) peering at you from the trees at dinner.

  • 💡The wifi in the Garden Rooms is often just a rumor; download your Netflix in the main lounge.
