You are paying for the lagoon access, not the room decor. If you need 5-star polish, go elsewhere; if you want to swim with turtles before breakfast, this is it.

Yes. It is widely considered the best off-the-beach snorkeling on Rarotonga because it sits on a protected marine reserve (no fishing allowed).
Is the water drinkable?
The resort has filtered UV-treated water taps in the rooms, so you don't need to buy plastic bottles.
Can I walk to restaurants?
Not easily. Vaima is a 25-30 min walk (2.3km) and the road is dark at night. You'll want a rental car, scooter, or use the island bus.
Is it good for couples?
It's okay, but the adjacent 'Sanctuary Rarotonga' is adults-only and shares facilities, making it a better bet for romance.
Are the rooms renovated?
Slowly. Some suites (like the 2-Bedroom Grand Beachfront) are new, but standard rooms are still quite traditional/dated.
How is the food?
Captain Andy's offers decent pub-style food (burgers, fish and chips, pizza). It's convenient but not gourmet.
