La Mamounia

$600-1500+/ nacht

Boek dit als You want to feel like a 1940s diplomat or a modern-day oligarch in the most famous hotel in Africa.

Waarom mensen ervan houden

  • The legendary 20-acre gardens that smell of jasmine and orange blossom
  • The Winston Churchill Bar, which feels like a time capsule of jazz-age hedonism
  • The 'Instagram gold' indoor pool that is actually as stunning as the photos

Snel Overzicht: It is undeniably spectacular, but be prepared to pay $10 for water and get side-eyed by security if your outfit isn't 'elegant' enough.

Beoordeeld door @homtimisteI finally checked into the legendary La Mamounia and it was surreal. The spa is breathtaking, and I couldn't stop eating the Pierre Hermé macarons. It’s expensive, but for a special occasion, the service and atmosphere are unmatched.

The hype

A bucket-list palace that lives up to the visual hype but can feel a bit cold and transactional in its service.

Reality check

You are paying for the privilege of being there; don't expect the warm, fuzzy hospitality of a smaller Riad.

  • You love dressing up for dinner and people-watching the global elite
  • You want a resort experience with huge pools and gardens, not a cramped Medina stay
  • You are a Pierre Hermé pastry devotee (he runs the pastry shop here)

Schoonmaak & Onderhoud

9
  • Housekeeping: Generally invisible and excellent, with turndown service including almond milk and dates. Occasional misses on minibar restocking.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Immaculate marble. No grout issues found. Toiletries are high-end and plentiful.
  • Maintenance: The 'Grand Dame' is kept in top shape. Gardens are manicured daily. No peeling paint or broken fixtures reported.
  • Linens & towels: Plush, heavy, and crisp. Robes are thick and luxurious.
  • Odors & scents: The hotel has a signature scent (dates, cedar, rose) that is pumped into the lobby — it smells expensive.

Beste keuzes

  • Park Deluxe Rooms (Garden View) for the most peace and iconic balcony views
  • Agdal Rooms on upper floors for sweeping views of the pool and Atlas Mountains

Kamers om te vermijden

  • Koutoubia View rooms if you are a light sleeper (closest to the mosque minaret)
  • Classic Rooms (entry level) — they can feel small and dark for the price point

Kamer Aanvraag Genie – kopiëren en plakken

I would kindly request a Park Deluxe Room on a higher floor facing the Agdal gardens. We are light sleepers and would prefer to be as far as possible from the Koutoubia Mosque side and the rooftop club.

Is there a dress code?

Tips van Insiders

  • The 'Menzeh' pavilion in the garden serves Pierre Hermé ice cream — a cheaper way to enjoy the grounds than a full meal.

  • You can hear the live jazz from the Churchill Bar in the lobby if you don't want to pay the cover/drink prices inside.

  • The spa uses 'marocMaroc' products which are incredible; buy the 'Grains de Lumière' scrub to take home.

5 dingen die je moet weten voordat je gaat

  • 💡The security guards at the gate can be borderline rude if they don't think you 'look' like a guest.

  • 💡You might find your minibar raided (and not restocked) by previous guests if housekeeping misses a beat.

  • 💡The 'Classic' rooms are surprisingly small for a hotel that charges $700+ a night.

  • 💡Water at lunch can cost $10 a bottle — 'imported from France' is the excuse.

  • 💡The indoor pool is smaller than it looks on Instagram and often crowded with people taking photos.
