Waarom mensen ervan houden

9.51324 beoordelingen
  • The 'Balcony of Meteora' views are not marketing fluff—they are literal
  • Kastraki village location is quieter and more atmospheric than Kalabaka
  • Breakfast includes homemade jams and local yogurt served in a rose-scented garden

Snel Overzicht: A charming, family-run time capsule where the views do the heavy lifting and the thin walls might let you hear your neighbor's prayers.

Beoordeeld door @KipermanpicI’ve never felt peace like this. Waking up at Doupiani House with the Meteora rocks looming right over my balcony was a spiritual experience. The garden sunset with a glass of wine was the highlight of my trip. Highly recommend for escaping the crowds.

The hype

Travelers universally worship the views and the kind, helpful Nakis family, often forgiving the dated furniture.

Reality check

The 'panoramic' rooms are worth every penny, but the 'mountain view' rooms often just face the parking lot or a hill.

  • You prioritize waking up to a UNESCO World Heritage site out your window
  • You prefer a family-guesthouse vibe over a sterile chain hotel
  • You have a car and want easy, free parking right at the base of the rocks

Schoonmaak & Onderhoud

9.2
  • Housekeeping: Daily and diligent. Reviews consistently praise the 'spotless' nature of the rooms.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Sparkling. Grout is clean, though bathrooms can be small and dated in style.
  • Maintenance: Good condition, though some furniture shows age (scratches, wear) typical of a family home.
  • Linens & towels: Fresh and crisp, though not luxury thread count. Functional and clean.
  • Odors & scents: Neutral to fresh. No musty 'old house' smells reported; lobby often smells of woodsmoke in winter.

Goed om te weten

  • Climate Crisis Resilience Fee is €1.50/night (Nov-Feb) or €5.00/night (Mar-Oct), payable at check-in
  • The walk to the nearest monastery (Agios Nikolaos Anapafsas) is steep but short (approx. 10-15 mins)
  • Reception closes late but isn't 24/7 in the off-season; email ahead if arriving after 10 PM

Wat je mee moet nemen

  • Earplugs (essential for the thin walls)

Kamers om te vermijden

  • Standard Mountain View (often faces the back/parking)
  • Ground floor rooms near the reception (noisier)

I am booking specifically for the 'Balcony of Meteora' experience. Please assign a top-floor room with a direct, unobstructed view of the Doupiani rock. I am willing to climb extra stairs for the best vantage point.

Veelgestelde vragen & Verborgen tips

Alles wat je eigenlijk wilt weten voordat je boekt.

Is there an elevator?

No. The hotel is built into a hill with multiple levels and no lift. Be prepared to carry your bags.

Does the hotel serve dinner?

No. They serve a robust breakfast and have a bar for drinks/snacks, but for dinner, you'll walk 5-10 minutes into Kastraki village.

Is it walkable to the monasteries?

Yes, to some. St. Nicholas Anapafsas is a 15-minute uphill hike. The Great Meteoron is much further (1+ hour hike); most guests drive or take the bus.

Is there a pool?

No pool. This is a traditional guesthouse, not a resort.

How is the parking?

Excellent. Large private lot right in front of the hotel, which is a luxury in the narrow streets of Kastraki.

Is the wifi good enough for video calls?

It's decent (free throughout), but can be spotty in corner rooms due to the thick stone walls.

Tips van Insiders

  • Skip the crowded 'Sunset Rock' and watch the sunset from the hotel's own garden terrace—it's 90% of the view with 0% of the crowds.

  • Ask the owner, Thanasis, for his hand-drawn map; it reveals goat paths to the monasteries that Google Maps doesn't know.

  • The 'Climate Crisis Fee' is cash-only at many smaller Greek hotels; keep small bills handy just in case.

5 dingen die je moet weten voordat je gaat

  • 💡The water pressure in the showers is surprisingly strong for a mountain village.

  • 💡There is a 'secret' trail to the Ypapanti Monastery (the hidden one) that starts very close to the hotel.

  • 💡The decor is heavily 'grandmother chic'—lots of dark wood, lace, and heavy drapes.

  • 💡You can hear the church bells from the village clearly; it's atmospheric but early.

  • 💡The bar fireplace is real wood-burning, making the lobby the best spot to hang out in winter.
