Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort

Book this if You want the 'Maldives experience' without the seaplane transfer—specifically if you plan to spend 90% of your time in swimwear.

Why People Love It

8.51851 reviews
  • The only resort in the UAE with genuine overwater villas
  • Lagoon Access rooms let you swim straight from your terrace
  • Mekong restaurant serves some of the best Asian cuisine on the Palm

Quick Take: A sprawling, Thai-themed aquatic playground that feels like a tropical island, provided you don't get stuck in the 'Residence' apartment block.

Reviewed by @Sanchyy993I spent my Christmas here and it was surreal. The Premier Lagoon View room let me swim right off my terrace. The resort is huge, so the buggies are great, and the festive decor against the palm trees is a vibe. Definitely check the rates for the lagoon rooms!

Guest Who Stayed Here Said

The hype

Families and couples love the lagoon pools and the 'far away' feel, but everyone complains about the slow check-in process.

Reality check

The 'private beach' water is inside the Palm breakwater, so it's calm but can be a bit stagnant compared to the open ocean.

  • You are a pool person—the lagoon system is massive and open 24 hours
  • You have kids who need constant entertainment (Tuk Tuk Kids Club is excellent)
  • You want a romantic 'swim-up' room without flying to the Maldives

Cleanliness & Maintenance

8.9
  • Housekeeping: Generally excellent twice-daily service, though some guests report missed dust in high corners.
  • Bathroom hygiene: Sparkling. Stone tubs are deep and well-scrubbed. No widespread mold issues despite the humidity.
  • Maintenance: The resort opened in 2013, so some wood on the villa exteriors shows sun-bleaching/wear, but interiors are well-kept.
  • Linens & towels: Plush and plentiful. Pool towels are large and readily available.
  • Odors & scents: Lobby smells of lemongrass and ginger (signature Thai scent). No musty odors in rooms.

Sleepability™

7.5SILENT
SILENT
0-4LOUD
4-7.5MODERATE
7.5-10SILENT
  • Neighbors swimming past your terrace
  • Connecting doors in family rooms (thin soundproofing)
  • Hallway noise in the Residence building

Before you book

Good to know

  • A deposit of AED 750 (~$200) per night is standard and strictly enforced
  • The 'half-board' package is often worth it given the high à la carte food prices
  • There is a free shuttle bus to Mall of the Emirates, but it fills up fast—book seats with the concierge immediately upon arrival

What to pack

  • Multiple swimsuits (humidity means they take forever to dry)
  • Water shoes (the lagoon floor can be slightly rough/slippery)
  • Mosquito repellent (lots of still water + greenery = bugs in the evening)

Room Genie

Best picks

  • Premier Lagoon Access Room (Ground Floor) for the signature swim-out experience
  • Over Water Villa if you have the budget and want the glass-floor novelty

Rooms to avoid

  • Standard Rooms in the Residence Building (North/South Residences)—far from the lobby and lack the resort vibe
  • Lagoon View rooms near the main pool (too noisy)

Room Request Genie – copy & paste

I am requesting a ground-floor Premier Lagoon Access room, ideally located at the 'end' of a lagoon loop for maximum privacy and reduced foot traffic. Please ensure I am NOT placed in the Residence building.

FAQ & Hidden tips

Everything you actually want to know before you book.

Is the beach water clean?

It's clean but calm and sometimes stagnant because it's deep inside the Palm. Don't expect crashing waves or crystal-clear open ocean visibility.

Can I walk to other restaurants?

No. You are on the Crescent Road. The Waldorf Astoria is next door, but it's a long, hot walk. You will need a taxi for everything outside the hotel.

Are the Over Water Villas worth it?

For a bucket-list photo, yes. But be warned: they don't have direct ladder access to the ocean (the water below is too shallow/rocky), unlike true Maldivian villas.

Is the pool heated?

Yes, the main pool and lagoons are temperature-controlled, but in summer they are cooled, not heated.

How much is breakfast?

If not included in your rate, the buffet at Crescendo costs approx AED 175 ($48) per person.

Is there alcohol?

Yes, it's a fully licensed resort with multiple bars, including a swim-up bar.

Insider Tips

  • The 'Mai Bar' boat travels around the lagoons delivering coconuts and cocktails directly to your terrace—flag it down.

  • Happy Hour at Mai Bar is usually 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM with 30% off drinks (verify times on arrival).

  • Request a room in the 'Lotus' cluster if you want to be closer to the spa and adult-focused areas.

5 things to know before you go

  • 💡The 'Over Water Villas' actually face the Dubai skyline/Palm fronds, not the open ocean, so privacy is lower than you'd expect.

  • 💡The tuk-tuk boat shuttle across the lagoon is fun but slower than walking.

  • 💡You can hear the call to prayer from nearby mosques across the water, which adds atmosphere but might wake light sleepers.

  • 💡The 'Residence' apartments have their own pool which is often quieter than the main resort pool.

  • 💡Room service prices are astronomical—expect to pay $30+ for a basic burger.
